Just another bank?

Sep 15, 2016

There’s been some recent discussion in the news about different banks’ approaches towards serving their customers. Like other businesses, as banks, we’re all a little unique. There are mutual firms, thrifts, credit unions and community banks, so figuring out which institutions do what can get confusing.

At Washington Federal, we do banking a little differently. What exactly makes us unique? Take a look.

Simple, straightforward products.

For starters, we like to keep it simple. That’s why you’ll only find three types of consumer checking accounts and one, simple savings account. May not seem like much, but we’ve found that’s usually all people really need. Our fees are straightforward, and we don’t discriminate our offerings based on age or location.

Commission free.

We believe in recommending products to people that fit their life and benefit their future. That’s why our loan officers, or branch managers, aren’t paid on commission. This gives our colleagues the power to offer product recommendations that make sense for our clients, without thinking about their own paycheck.

Invested in communities.

We’re so excited about this unique trait that we made it part of our logo. What exactly does “invested here” mean for Washington Federal? As one of a small number of portfolio lenders, it means we’re invested in the local communities we serve. So when you get a mortgage, line of credit or refinance with us, you can rest assured that we won’t turn around and sell your loan to a big-box Wall Street bank. Our clients can call us directly with any questions, throughout the entire life of their loan. Another way to look at it, money that gets deposited at Washington Federal is reinvested back into the community in the form of responsible, common-sense lending.
