Financial Scholars Program at Oregon High School

Jan 27, 2015

At Washington Federal, one of our goals is to educate and empower young people about taking control of their financial future. To support this important endeavor, we've partnered with EverFi to bring the Washington Federal Financial Scholars program to selected high schools in Arizona, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, and Utah. This program provides interactive, web-based financial management courses to high schools at no cost to the schools or taxpayers.

John F Kennedy High School

We recently brought this program to John F Kennedy High School in Mount Angel, Oregon. Our teammates Robin, Woodburn branch manager, and Lori, Wilsonville branch manager, spent time in several classrooms and hosted a question and answer session about banking and personal finance. As many of the students were seniors, they were interested in "real-world" financial situations. Many of the students had begun thinking about applying for credit cards or opening bank accounts. Our branch managers also discussed the pros and cons of buying versus renting a home and the importance of saving for a down payment.
