eStatements: a tree saving, information protecting & clutter-reducing way to manage your finances.

Oct 09, 2014

We've gone green! This fall, we're excited to announce our Go Green eStatement Giving campaign.

We are donating $1 to your local food bank for every account that signs up to eStatements.

That's up to 2.5 million meals to help keep our neighbors from going to sleep hungry. (It only takes four minutes to sign up, click here for instructions.)

Over the next few weeks, we're going to be taking an in-depth look at what's so important about this campaign and why signing up matters to our communities and environment. Get excited earth-lovers, because in today's post we'll be focusing on the environmental benefits.

How do eStatements help out the Earth?

  • According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the average American uses about one 100-foot-tall Douglas fir tree in paper each year. By sending out fewer statements, there will be less demand for paper, which means less air pollution from paper products.
  • The Organization for Economic reports that pulp and paper industry is the single largest consumer of water used in industrial activities and the third greatest industrial greenhouse gas emitter.
  • According to the Environmental Protection Agency, if Americans saved all the paper we go through in a year, we could heat 50 million homes for 20 years.
  • North America accounts for over 1/3 of the average worldwide annual paper consumption. (International Institute for Environment and Development Discussion Paper)
